Dulal Mukherjee grew up amidst the lush green rural settings of the Dooars in North Bengal which infused in him a deep sense of reverence and inspiration from the unconquerable majesty of nature. An artist, at heart, his dream was to pursue a career in art or art related disciplines.
His intrinsic sense of aesthetics and balance, individualistic philosophy helped him to excel in architecture and he graduated from his Alma mater with flying colours.
Greatly inspired by the powers of nature, his design have always striven to be embellishments in the wide canvas of the Earth's natural beauty. The multi-hued range of his designs include housing, office and commercial complexes, institutions, interior works, resorts and restoration and reuse projects. Landscape designing is a niche area which he has delved deeply in his various projects.
Decorated with the prestigious Baburao Mhatre Gold Medal from IIA for his lifetime contribution to Architecture in 2010, Dulal Mukherjee have been the recipient of numerous National awards - " Dharmasthala Manjunatheswara" for his outstanding contribution to semi-rural architecture as seen in Kala Bhavan Graphic Studio, Visva Bharati University, "JIIA Project award 1990" from the Indian Institute of Architects for the Don Bosco Church at Kalyani,the Economic Times Acetech Award and The CNBC Award for lifetime achievement to name a few.
Dulal Mukherjee's contribution to the field of academics has been immense. His short stint as a faculty member at B.E. College saw him enthusiastically conducting workshops and interactive sessions with his students till late in the evening and is of the firm belief that the process of discourse is an ideal means of honing their knowledge. He is a regular member of Jury for the graduate final year thesis of a number of colleges like IIT Kharagpur, Bengal Engineering College & Science University at Shibpur , Jadavpur University and B.I.T, Mesra. His dream is to set up a design school in Bengal with fellow professionals and academicians for a holistic architectural education for the new generation.
Nominated a member of All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE), he has been on the panel of judges for various national level architectural awards like the J.K. Awards, the JIIA Awards, the A+D and Spectrum Architectural awards and the National Association for Students of Architecture(NASA) on several occasions. He is a regular jury member of the Design competition of International and Domestic terminals for the Airports Authority of India and Architecture Award Competition for Professionals of Structural Design and Construction for INSDAG.
As an active member of the architects fraternity, Mukherjee has been one of the founding members and subsequently the Chairman of Indian Institute of Architects, West Bengal chapter. He has in recent years spearheaded a group of young architects and designers to form the Indian Institute of Interior Designers, Kolkata Chapter, and actively represents them as a team for national meets.
